While it takes others a life time to figure out their passion and direction, at the age of 4 she had already started sketching the female form and knew she was going to be in the Fashion industry.
26 years later, here we are, anticipating her showcase of the RumbiRumbi Spring-Summer Collection. Despite being a new mother and wife, Rumbi has been hard at work on this collection and will be sharing her creativity with the world this December at the Bronte Garden Hotel.
This stand-alone showcase in arguably the first in Harare. With Miss Elizabeth Mhangami founder and CEO of Vana Ve Vhu (current face of RumbiRumbi), Lady K (Zifm Dj) as your host for the night and the first lady, Grace Mugabe who is yet to confirm her attendance we are promised of style, elegance and sophistication.
I caught up with Rumbi and here is what I got from her…
When was the RumbiRumbi brand started??
Rumbi got her practical know how from, Brett Van Rooyen who gave her her first job as the women’s wear designer at Faithwear in 2010. Determined to start her own clothing line, she quit her job and RumbiRumbi Clothing was founded in 2012.
What can we look forward to at the Spring-summer showcase?
Rumbi’s vision is to deliver an event of an international standard with a business networking environment after the show for buyers, investors, designers alike.
What was the source of inspiration for the spring-summer collection?
Her inspiration came from being able to get back into shape after giving birth. “As a woman, when you are confident in your own skin, you can set sights on just about anything. This collection embodies a busy woman, confident in her own skin,” she adds.
How long has she been working on this showcase?
She has been putting the collection together since May of this year and the event planning has been going on for a little over a month now.
What are some of the challenges she has faced as a fashion designer and business woman?
“The lack of direct investments, the liquidity crunch, existence of second hand clothing and cheap Asian imports have not made it easy to trade fairly but passion will drive you to relentlessly pursue your dream.”
Where can we purchase RumbiRumbi products?
The RumbiRumbi products can be purchased at 38 Worplestone way, Glen Lorne in Harare.
I will always be excited to work in fashion because … there’ll always be something new.
