In exactly a month, I will be launching my YouTube Channel. YAAAAAAY!
Since I will be embarking on a new journey I just thought I would prepare with those of you who haven’t gotten on the makeup bandwagon. This post is meant to help you get prepared for your makeup journey – introduce you to the basic stuff needed in your any day makeup routine for a fresh look.
I encourage you to go out and buy the stuff so that whenever I post a video we can go through it together.
All the suggested products are reasonably priced for first-time makeup users.
DISCLAIMER: This post is not sponsored by any of the brands mentioned.
Primer is meant to create a “perfect” canvas for your makeup but, you can also do without it. For the longest time, I wore makeup without a primer
The Maybelline Pore eraser retails for R80/R90 in Dischem and this is simply the best I have come across so far.
Foundation should be the same shade as your skin tone. As a makeup newbie, you can walk into Clicks, Dischem or a department store and the ladies by the makeup aisles will help you figure out. Brands like essence and LA girl can serve as your entry-level brands – this may also be dependent on how your skin reacts to them. Revlon is a good one too. My first foundation was the Revlon Colour Stay. If you are in college it might be “pricey” but it will last so that is something to think about before you make your purchase.
Concealer is perfect for either highlighting or just covering dark spots. In some instances, you can also use it as a substitute for foundation – if it is the same shade as your complexion. LA Girl concealers do the deed. They are inexpensive and they offer good coverage.
Powder to set your makeup and get that matte look and feel. You need to make sure it matches your complexion.
An eyeshadow palette that has a wide range of colors would be the best here. #SLAYSFORDAYS by Swiitchbeauty is my personal favorite. It has a variety of warm summery tones and earthy, neutrals which are good for a “natural” look. Some of the warmer colors can also be used as a blush.
A brown pencil is a must in any makeup bag. When filling in your eyebrows, brown is much softer than a black and it also gives a natural brow look, unlike a black. Essence has some of the affordable good quality pencils.
You will need powder to set your makeup and combat shine.
Noone needs a million colors of blush. Find the one that works for you and you can but millions of it because all you need is a for it to add a little color. I really mean a little!
Mascara is a must especially for those of us who do not like wearing falsies or lining our eyes.
You need to experiment with a few lippies before you find your signature one. This can be a gloss or lipstick. I have found that NYX nude mattes like, London and Abu Dhabi are my faves and my go-to for any occasion. You will certainly see them quite a bit on the channel.
I really hope this is helpful and will get you started on your makeup journey!
