Borrowing From The Guys | 3 Step Guide

Hi loves,

A few weeks ago, I had a closet clean out which was fun but I kind of regretted by the time I was done. While cleaning, I came across my ex-boyfriend’s sweaters. First thought was to throw them away – how immature! I thought. Thank goodness my fashion alter ego came to the rescue and this post came to life.

Depending on your personal style, there are one or two pieces of clothes you are able to incorporate into your looks from time to time. I have a thing for guys sweaters and jerseys, hence my ex’s sweaters in my cupboard. I find it easy to mix them up into my personal style. You can keep reading for some pointers on how you can do too.

Figure out which guy clothes you like?

You are probably thinking, but, Vanessa how do I know which of my man’s clothes I would love to rock? First of all, you don’t necessarily need to have a man, you can just walk into the guys’ section in your desired shop and then pick and try what you gravitate towards. Of course, it must mesh pretty well with your personal style.

Be comfortable

After picking out the clothes that draw your attention it is important to note that men’s sizes are different from women’s clothes so be sure to try them on before making a purchase. Ensure it fits well and it sure should be flattering because the last thing you want is for people to look at you and think you are trying too hard.

Keep it feminine

Like the title states, we are borrowing from the guys so do not go for a full on men’s outfit. Incorporate a pair of shoes, pants, a t-shirt, sweater or a hat but not all of them at once because over doing it might give people the wrong impression and nobody needs that. At most I would say wear two pieces of guy’s clothes in your outfit.

For my look below, I wore a men’s jersey with one of my very common formal-ish looks. As we all know, a white shirt is a wardrobe basic and classic. I paired it with another wardrobe basic, black leggings. Building my outfit up from basics, I added a “scarf”/tie, the jersey, a pair of Louboutins to keep it feminine. Should the temperature drop, a waterfall coat is an option.
